Advancing Your Organization with Effective Fundraising

Session I:  Advancing Your Organization with Effective Fundraising
Thursday-Friday, April 29-30 (8 a.m.-5 p.m.)

Session II:  Advancing Your Organization with Effective Fundraising
Thursday-Friday, June 17-18 (8 a.m.-5 p.m.)

Targeted Audience: This two-day session is ideal for directors of development and major gift officers.  In addition, it is an excellent experience for executive directors and board members. This course is tailored to both new and seasoned fundraising professionals.

Program Description: This is a training designed to provide an immersion into creating or redesigning a current major gift fundraising program. The curriculum teaches and reinforces how to advance your organization through a comprehensive and effective fundraising program.
The learnings in this two-day session will focus on:

  • Educating a board to be funding focused;
  • Special events v. major gift fundraising;
  • Researching your opportunities for major gifts;
  • Understanding donor perspectives;
  • Identifying the right donors;
  • Profiling and adapting to a donor’s profile;
  • Building a trust-based relationship with donors;
  • Discussing the philanthropic passion of a donor;
  • Matching this passion to organizational initiatives;
  • Gaining a gift commitment; and
  • Creating extraordinary gift experiences.


There will also be discussion and a toolkit provided on:

  • annual funds,
  • giving societies,
  • in-kind gifts,
  • planned gifts, and
  • launching campaigns (traditional annual, traditional capital, comprehensive and single-purpose).

We will have two guest speakers over the course of the two day training:

  • one to talk on the economy and how it is affecting the current funding efforts from a national perspective; and
  • a second to speak as a major donor and why they made such a sizeable investment in a nonprofit.

NOTE:  There will also be extensive preparation and communication prior to the two-day session. It will require the participants to provide ample information about his/her existing programs as well as prepare a portfolio of information to share with the class in addition to responding to an annual fundraising planning document.

Program Goals/Objectives/Outcomes:
The program objectives include:

  • Understanding what makes a b fundraising program – the fundamentals and the process.
  • Assessing how well your organization uses these tools;
  • How to differentiate your organization from others competing for the same funds;
  • Creating funding priorities;
  • Raising money in a challenging economy; and
  • How to cultivate donors in a profound and meaningful way.

Program Value: $741 per participant

Program Fee: $100

Maximum number of participants:  32 participants (16 per session)
