Professional Communicator Training Series: Five courses

Session I:  Professional Communicator Training Series; five classes

  • Tuesday, March 9 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, April 13 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, May 18 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, June 15 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, July 13 (8 a.m.-5 p.m.)

Session II:  Professional Communicator Training Series:  five classes

  • Wednesday, May 26 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, June 23 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, July 21 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, August 18 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, September 22 (8 a.m.-5 p.m.)

Targeted Audience: Available to individuals working in a professional communications position. This target can also include executive directors and selective board members

Program Description: A series of trainings designed to broaden higher level communications strategy and implementation capabilities.

Program Goals/Objectives/Outcomes:

  • Taking Your Next Communications Project To A Higher Level (half-day session) – An in-depth look at the four-step process of public relations:
  • research
  • action
  • communication
  • evaluation
  • Beyond Deadlines:  Thinking Strategically (half-day session) – A closer look at understanding your audiences, defining key messages, tying project objectives into business and departmental mission/vision including:
  • Understanding strategy in communications and business decisions
  • Why is strategic thinking important?
  • A framework for thinking strategically and defining what is NOT strategic thinking
  • How do we think?
  • Investigating and gathering information effectively
  • Seeing the big picture
  • Thinking creatively
  • Writing a Communications Plan (half-day session) – Studying the specific elements of a PR plan:
  • Writing goals and objectives
  • Developing a budget
  • Preparing timelines
  • Developing a communications plan outline
  • Managing a Project (half-day session) – An overview of the essential elements of good project management including:
    • Developing and implementing processes
    • Reporting progress and other documentation
    • Meeting management
    • Agendas
    • Meeting minutes
    • Conference reports
    • Checklists
    • Trouble-shooting
  • Communicating with the Media:  PR 101 (full day)
  • Understanding the media
  • Press releases, media advisories and other written forms of communication for the media
  • What makes a great story
  • Preparing your pitch
  • Using social media

Program Value: $1,340 per participant

Program Fee: $140

Maximum number of participants: 32 participants (16 per session)
