        Third Nonprofit Learning Series

Springdale, AR — CommunityCare Foundation announces its third Nonprofit Learning Series to assist the region's charitable organizations in building their management skills. "The CommunityCare Foundation Board of Directors realized that we don't have the resources to give grants to all the worthy causes in the region. What we can offer is a series of learning opportunities to help agencies become more effective and efficient in serving the community," explained Emerson Goodwin, Director for Programs.

The year-long Nonprofit Learning Series is comprised of four different programs that have been revised and updated including:

  • Fast Forward
  • ALL ABOARD!
  • Executive Exchange
  • The Empowerment Zone

Fast Forward, is a four-part learning series designed to be an overview for nonprofits to explore issues related to board development, strategic planning, fund development, and marketing. A new curriculum will be provided this year by trainers from the Center for Nonprofit Management, Dallas, Texas.

ALL ABOARD! is an opportunity for nonprofit board members and staff to gain critical knowledge that can be employed to help their agencies. This year's effort will focus on the two areas that agencies have requested: Fund Development and Human Resource Law. Chuck V. Loring, a nationally recognized fundraising consultant, and Charles Harwell, a prominent local attorney, will lead the respective seminars.

For the first time CommunityCare Foundation is hosting A Night of Greatness, celebrating the dedication, hard work, and numerous contributions volunteers make to the quality of life in northwest Arkansas. Robert K. Goodwin, President and CEO of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network, will highlight the volunteer appreciation event.

Executive Exchange will expand the opportunity for nonprofit Executive Directors to learn and grow with their peers. In six monthly sessions, different leaders will facilitate a discussion of a book on current management theory. CommunityCare Foundation will provide the books ahead of time so that participants can prepare for the discussion.

This year's discussion leaders are Coleman Peterson, Executive Vice President, Wal-Mart Stores Inc.; David Williams, Ph.D., President and CEO, Ozark Guidance; Dan Ferritor, Ph.D., Chancellor Emeritus and University Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Arkansas; Julia Hobbs, Vice President, Strategic Marketing, ThompsonMurray; Wendy Soderquist, Director of Leadership Development, Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics; and Pan Adams, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Psychiatric Nurse.

The final program of the Nonprofit Learning Series is the Empowerment Zone a 12-month intense, customized, consultative relationship for five selected nonprofit organizations conducted by the Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics. The Empowerment Zone process will accelerate leadership development, long-term problem solving, and resource development by focusing on the key issues facing each of the participating organizations.
